Two men have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences, reports said. Authorities said the men were "involved in recruiting, facilitating, and funding people to travel to Syria to engage in hostile activities". Australia is working to stop people joining Middle East jihadist groups. The two men, aged 21 and 31, were arrested at the iQraa Islamic Centre south of Brisbane. Both would be charged with preparing for incursions into Syria, Australian reports said. The 21-year-old would be charged with recruiting fighters to join the conflict, while the 31-year-old would be charged with providing funds to militant group Jabhat al-Nusra.

A US father is suspected of killing his five children and dumping their bodies in another state, police have said. Timothy Ray Jones faces multiples charges in his home state of South Carolina, the Associated Press news agency reports. He was arrested on Saturday in Mississippi on unrelated charges. The children, ages one to eight, were reported missing on Wednesday, when their mother told police she could not get in contact with her ex-husband.
Authorities found the children buried near an Alabama highway after an all-day search on Tuesday, local media reported. Alabama Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt Steve Jarrett told a news conference on Tuesday Mr Jones led investigators to the children's bodies. Smith County, Mississippi, Sheriff Charlie Crumpton told reporters that Mr Jones was stopped at a safety checkpoint on Saturday and was determined to be driving under the influence of drugs.

McDonald's Forced to Scrap Salads Over Russia's Food Import Ban

McDonald's in Russia
Following inspections by Russia's food safety watchdog, McDonald's has said it will temporarily close 22 restaurants for 'modernization,' adding it has scrapped two salads from its menu in light of a ban on Western food imports. The ban — introduced in response to the Western sanctions against Russia over its policies in Ukraine — has forced McDonald's to suspend serving its vegetable and Caesar salads while it searches for new suppliers, spokeswoman Oxana Belaychuk said, TASS news agency reported Tuesday. "The quality of products used in salads does not meet the requirements which used to satisfy us and our suppliers [before the ban was enacted] and we decided to remove salads from the menu until we find an alternative," Belaychuk was quoted as saying.
The move is unrelated to inspections conducted by the food safety watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, which has accused McDonald's of serving substandard produce, Belaychuk added. Rospotrebnadzor said late August that its inspectors had found E. coli and other dangerous bacteria in a range of McDonald's foods, and named the two salad dishes among the offending items, Russian media reported.

The government has already prepared a list of 172 citizens of Russia and other countries, and of 65 Russian companies, including gas export giant Gazprom GAZP.MM, on whom they could impose sanctions "for financing terrorism."

Turkey tightens internet controls – again

Hundreds of thousands cut off by India and Pakistan floods

Pakistan flood

Emergency workers are trying to reach hundreds of thousands of people in northern India and Pakistan cut off by the worst floods for decades.
Hundreds have died in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir. In the Indian-administered zone the army has been transporting boats by air to evacuate people from the worst affected areas. Stories are emerging of people being stranded for hours before being rescued by neighbours.
Some people have been airlifted to safety by emergency teams – yet even so there is anger at the authorities. “The government should at least have sent boats to rescue us over the last three days. No one from the government has come to ask about us till now. There are no supplies of water, food or medicine,” said one man on board a plane sent to winch people from flooded areas.
